How to figure out the Works Cited entry:

with your article in hand, figure out what sort of article it is (an article from a journal? An article from a website? An entry from an encyclopedia online? An online book? A hard copy book? Etc.) If you have trouble figuring out what sort of source it is, then ask for help because everything else depends on this step.
Go to Google or some other search engine and search
“How do a Works Cited entry for ______________ MLA format”

Usually Perdue Owl comes up in your search as one of the first few sources—this is a great site.

Find the pattern (what goes where in the entry). Follow the pattern exactly, plugging in the information for your source. Where there are periods in the pattern, put a period, where the pattern is italicized, use italics.

EX—here is the template for a journal article. Note the periods, the quotation marks, the commas…. Follow the format exactly, putting your information into the template.

Author(s). "Title of Article." Title of Journal, Volume, Issue, Year, pages.

IF there is a piece of information missing from your source—let’s say, for example, that there is no author—skip that piece of information. IN this case, you will therefore start with the title.
